Biffi Arte

7th September 2019

From September 7 to October 5, 2019, Biffi Arte (Piacenza) hosted the exhibition DéVoilées in the evocative Sala delle Colonne, curated by Susanna Gualazzini. The show presented a series of photographic works by Alessandro Vasapolli that explore the ambiguous space between concealment and revelation, presence and absence.

Each image in the series portrays a woman seen from behind, framed within environments that remain suspended, veiled, and deliberately unresolved. Created entirely in-camera using custom-built optical systems and algorithmic interventions, the photographs reveal perceptual conditions rather than subjects, inviting the viewer into an open interpretive space shaped by memory, projection, and inference.

Set against the neoclassical architecture of the Sala delle Colonne, the exhibition emphasized the contrast between the formal solidity of the setting and the elusive, almost intangible quality of the images. DéVoilées unfolded as a visual meditation on the limits of visibility and the thresholds of perception, offering a quiet yet radical questioning of the photographic gaze.
