Lecture
Biblioteca delle Oblate, GF Il Cupolone
21st May 2019
The lecture “Quando la fotografia si racconta,” held at the Biblioteca delle Oblate in Florence, offered an insightful journey through the artistic trajectory of Alessandro Vasapolli.
The session traced Vasapolli’s creative evolution from the genesis of his interest in photography to the significant developments in his practice. The lecture delved into the ideological underpinnings of his artistic research, exploring how these conceptual frameworks were translated into tangible artworks through innovative technological approaches. Emphasis was placed on Vasapolli’s unique methodology of manipulating the photographic medium directly within the camera to achieve specific aesthetic and perceptual outcomes, thereby challenging traditional photographic representation and exploring alternative ways of seeing. The lecture underscored the intersection of philosophical inquiry and technical innovation in shaping a distinctive artistic language.
The event received support from the City of Florence, the Biblioteca delle Oblate, FIAF Federazione Italiana Associazioni Fotografiche, Gruppo Fotografico “Il Cupolone”, and the Liceo Artistico di Porta Romana Firenze.
Introductory remarks by Maria Federica Giuliani, President of the V Culture Commission of the Municipality of Florence, and by Simone Sabatini and Carlo Midollini, President and Vice-President respectively of Gruppo Fotografico “Il Cupolone”.
