The video interview was recorded on the occasion of Dance Notes, a solo exhibition by Alessandro Vasapolli held at Biffi Arte in Piacenza in April 2023.

The conversation offers an in-depth reflection on the conceptual and technical dimensions of the Dance Notes project, structured around six distinct chapters: Grace, Dynamics, Strength, Movement, Impetus, and Time. Through this progression, the interview explores how the photographic medium is redefined—not simply as a tool for representation, but as a site of transformation where gesture, light, and time intersect in unexpected ways.

From the early study of classical poses to the dissolution of the body into pure motion and light, the project investigates the tension between permanence and ephemerality, between the visible and the imagined. Special focus is given to the artist’s process, including the development of a custom optical shutter, the use of algorithmic color systems, and the handcrafted sets and lighting used in each shot.

The interview sheds light on the broader research behind the series, situating the project within a reflection on perception, temporality, and the photographic act itself.
