Lo Sguardo Oltre l’Uomo
Conference
Ottofinestre, within the framework of EXPOSED Turin Photo Festival

21st May 2025

Within the framework of EXPOSED Turin Photo Festival, the conference “Lo Sguardo Oltre l’Uomo” was held at Ottofinestre in conjunction with the solo exhibition “La Soglia del Vero” by Alessandro Vasapolli, curated by Francesco Lo Jacono.

During the conference, the relationship between perception and reality was explored, along with the possibility of developing an artistic language capable of transcending human sensory limits and offering an alternative form of knowledge. Drawing from the concept of “Illusory Realism”, elaborated by Vasapolli throughout his artistic research, the discussion addressed the intrinsic illusion of sensory experience and the potential for photography to depict a different, non-human representation of the world.

Historically regarded as a tool for documenting the visible, photography in Vasapolli’s practice is subverted into an instrument of sensory abstraction. By altering the camera’s internal mechanics, the artist transforms it into a non-human observer—one capable of revealing aspects of reality inaccessible to the naked eye.

Talk hold by Angelo Rasero, President of “A.C. Ottofinestre”, Valerio Consonni, Moderator, Marco Eugenio di Giandomenico, Art Critic and Curator,  Alessandro Vasapolli, Francesco Lo Jacono, Art Historian and Curator.
